Police Confiscates 70Kg of Opium in Khorasan

TEHRAN The Police Commander of Qaen, Khorasan Province, Colonel Abbas Ali Motahhari Tabar, said on Monday that some 70 kilos of opium have been seized from the drug dealers, during the past two days.

He said that seven drug smugglers have been arrested during anti-drug operations against the smugglers over the past two days, adding that two vehicles were also seized from the traffickers.

In another development, the London-based Arab language *****Asharq Al-Awsat**** reported on Friday that Iran accounts for 85 percent of the narcotics seized in the world by nabbing an annual 278 tons of drugs.

The daily added that Iran is fighting the hardest war along border with Afghanistan the main drug producer country.

The Saudi-owned daily also said that Iran is facing the most violent war with drug traffickers along its eastern border with Afghanistan.

The daily also praised the Iran for its ceaseless drug fight, saying that owing to serious war against drugs, Iran has become the most important obstacle to the transit of drugs from Afghanistan to consumers in the Middle East, Europe and Americas.
